Public transportation – monthly ticket for au pair
As a host family, you have to make sure your au pair goes to a language school, and you have to pay for the transportation to and from the school. Considering that your au pair will be commuting on a regular basis, it makes more sense to get a monthly ticket for public transportation than to buy each ride separately.
If you are undecided as to whether to purchase a monthly ticket for your au pair, keep in mind that being able to use public transportation gives your au pair more freedom. The au pair can meet up with friends without having to think about the costs each time. If you don’t live downtown and don’t want your au pair to hang out with you every night, it would be a good idea to invest in public transportation for the au pair.
If you put the expenses for the ticket on your credit card or pay for it directly from your bank account you can use the receipts to get a tax deduction. Ask at the Internal Revenue Service for more information.
